The Future of Sunrise Park Resort

In 2019, Sunrise Park Resort hired Swaback, an Arizona architecture firm, to develop a master plan for the resort. This master plan includes a “Base Village” with a new base hotel, pool, ice skating rink, hillside ski-in cottages above the “Sugar” trail, a high-altitude training center, and more!

Along with the Master Plan from Swaback, we also have development plans for a new high-speed chairlift/gondola from the base of Cyclone Circle to the top of Apache Peak. This new chairlift will feature a mix of 6-passenger chairs and 8-passenger gondolas. With the addition of this lift, we plan to utilize the lodge at Apache Peak for summer activities, such as events and weddings.

Sunrise Master Plan: Phase 1

Phase 1 of the Sunrise Park Resort Master Plan includes plans for renovation to the main lodge and an addition of:

  • Base Area Hotel (40+ rooms)
  • Swimming Pool
  • Restaurant
  • New Ticket Booth and Entrance
  • New Rental Shop and Ski Patrol Facilities
  • Ice Skating Rink
  • Paved Parking Lot

Sunrise Master Plan: Phase 2

Phase 2 of the Sunrise Master Plan is slated to include up to 25 ski-in cottages above the “Sugar” trail. This would allow visitors to ski from their cottage down to the base of Sunrise Peak to access the lifts. It would also allow visitors to watch skiers and snowboarders pass by throughout the day from the deck of the cottages.

Sunrise Master Plan: Future Phase

Sunrise Park Resort is one of the highest elevation areas in the state, therefore offering ideal conditions for a High Altitude Training Center (HATC). The area slated for a training center sit at an altitude around 9,500′ and would include:

  • Olympic Swimming Pool
  • Weight Training Room
  • Sauna and Steam Rooms
  • Lounge/Café/Juice Bar
  • Gymnasium
  • Football Field
  • Half-Mile Running Track

Sunrise High-Speed Chairlift/Gondola

A new high-speed and high-capacity chairlift/gondola is in the works for Sunrise Park Resort! Preliminary planning has begun for this chairlift/gondola combination lift to service visitors from the base of Cyclone Circle to the top of Apache Peak in about half the time of the current two-lift system. This new lift would also offer high-capacity 6-person chairs and 8-person gondolas. In the summer, the new chairlift could serve for scenic lift rides and the Apache Peak Lodge could be open for dining and summer events.
